A New Marketing Plan?

Does anyone else have an issue with being called "Honey" by a perfect stranger?

Well, I do. I have a few quirky issues and thast one of `em. Servers, clerks, anyone who I suppose is being nice, it bugs me! I see u shaking your head.....I was in a crappy mood this morning. I had issues. My knee swelled up from roaming the Seven Sisters quilt show ( which btw was big and great!) I didnt sleep well, ( as usual), Rudy flinged last nights dinner on one of Jamie's pictures (really ticked me off) and When I went to make pancakes at Walts request, the maple syrup had gone bad:(. So off to the local store I go, hobbling, in sweats n crocs... hoping know one would notice me. I would have sent Walt, but he had a mad date with a weed eatter and I wasnt going to interupt. I had already started to load a quilt this morning, so as I'm sure many of you know, the threads just JUMP onto your clothing on a daily basis. I pick n pull before I leave the house, often times missing what I cannot see behind me.
Where am I going with all this you ask?
Well... while in the check out line, a clerk behind me called me said" Oh Honey let me pull this string off your back". Now.... THE NERVE has been touched.. she called me Honey!!! I turned to scold her and in a blink of an eye got a wave of a new marketing idea.
I pulled out my business card ( always handy) and told her that I was a quilter by trade, and there was no escaping this pesky little perk of the job. She said oh really..........................We chatted for awhile and she has a quilt top for me next week. When she comes in, we will get to know each other more.. then she will be allowed to call me "honey". No longer a stranger, money in my pocket, and frown turned upside down.
There. I'll be throwing thread over the back side of my shoulder from now on, and when you, as a stranger call me HONEY, expect to become my client and/or friend.

Happiness really IS a choice.

Yup! Great marketing plan. The one that gets me is "you're so sweet" - when you know it is a slam. Of course I am not "sweet".

Great way to turn it around to your favor. Being in the South, it's not unusual to be called "honey" on a regular basis, so I'm used to it. But back when we had our hardware store, I was ringing out a male customer and he called me "baby"....to which I blurted out with no thought whatsoever, "Don't call me baby!" I was stunned by my own reaction, but it soooo rubbed me the wrong way to be called "baby" by this man. I think he was stunned as well and we quickly completed the transaction without saying anything else.

We should all use this attitude when dealing with each other!

Awesome! I need to remember this for the future. And let me add Sugar to that list of hate to be called.

Brilliant! I might have to borrow that idea.

Got any ideas how to "use" the fur that sticks to me too?

You're right.... we really have more control over our attitude than we think. Thanks for the smile and the reminder. ;c)

Great attitude. I too hate being called honey, sweetie, etc. Except of course by those I love back.
If DH is with me and someone refers to me as "lady" he will retort "that's no lady, that's my wife" LOL they usually don't know quite what to say to that!

Good for you for not biting her head off!

I've lived too many years in the south to even notice people calling me honey. I do call Chesty *sug* short for sugar and Keith likes to give me a hard time about it. I guess it's a southern thing!

When I was younger that honey, sugar, babe stuff used to get my goat. As I grow older I see it as a complitment. As if I am sweet as sugar or have a youthful skip in my step....aw, heck, it beats a lot of things I could be called instead. Now what I really hate is being called mam. That makes me feel like I'm 90.

Good for you, Gina! It's a great reminder that we do have lots of choices throughout our day. I needed that! If I'd have known you were going to that quilt show at Madonna Inn, I would have driven over and joined you! Dang it!

Great idea Gina! I hate being called honey and sweetie, I complain all the time and mike thinks I'm too sensitive about it. Half the time the people calling me hunn or sweetie, (or up here in Maine the big thing is dear only with a Maine accent it comes out deah) are at least a decade younger then I am it to me it feels disrespectful.
You go girl!

I could really relate to your story... yes, I was at the store about 2 weeks ago and a stranger starts pulling threads off of me, too!! LOL

I love your sign off motto, too.
